Foundation program offers free cancer checkups in Allen Parish Sept. 7-8

The Cenla Medication Access Program’s cancer screening van will visit Allen Parish in September to help residents get checked for colorectal, breast and cervical cancers. The van will be at CMAP’s Oakdale office, 107 South 12th St., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8.

The van, a partnership between The Rapides Foundation and the Partners in Wellness Program at Feist-Weiller Cancer Center at LSU-Shreveport, began offering these free services last fall and will travel to Central Louisiana parishes each month throughout the year.

Residents who meet income and insurance qualifications can call for an appointment on the van to get free clinical breast exams, mammograms, Pap smears, pelvic exams and take-home colorectal cancer kits. Central Louisiana is below the national average when it comes to these screenings.

The screening van is a part of the Cancer Screening Project, a Foundation-funded program that is administered by CMAP. The van brings cancer screening to rural areas in hopes of increasing the number of people who get their checkups. “We hope to make it easier for people to get these potentially life-saving tests,” said Joe Rosier, president and CEO of The Rapides Foundation.

To request an appointment, please call Cancer Screening Specialist Trayce Snow at 318-767-3027. To find out when the screening van will be in your area, click here to view the calendar. Print
