The Rapides Foundation's Education Initiative seeks to increase the level of educational attainment and achievement as the primary path to improved economic, social and health status.

The initiative builds upon the longstanding work and relationships between the Foundation and the nine public school districts in its service area. Its grantmaking strategy revolves around the following key components: an Effective Schools Initiative that provides opportunities for districts to enhance professional development for teachers and the leadership capacity for administrators; funding Professional Development Institutes for Cenla educators; a focus on Career and Post-secondary Readiness; and funding training institutes to promote kindergarten readiness.

The Orchard Foundation, a nonprofit local education fund established by The Rapides Foundation, administers many of the programs developed under The Rapides Foundation's Education Initiative.
