Community Development Works, a program of The Rapides Foundation, offers free, skill-building trainings on a wide variety of topics for people interested in improving their communities. Topics include volunteerism, fund development, financial management and grant writing. Spring trainings begin in March.

Community Development Works, a program of The Rapides Foundation, is accepting applications for Cenla Execbuilders, a leadership development program for new or experienced Executive Directors of local nonprofit organizations. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, March 1.

Meet Rick Stoddard

Rick Stoddard wanted the world to know that tobacco killed his 46-year-old wife. He was so passionate about it that he insisted her obituary list her cause of death as “cancer caused by cigarette smoking.” Those few words – written out of anger, grief and love – turned him into an unlikely champion for a tobacco-free society. “I had no idea what those words were going to stir up,” he said.
