Foundation announces video contest for high schools

The cameras will be rolling for some lucky high school students in Central Louisiana.

The Rapides Foundation is looking for one team from each high school in Allen, Avoyelles, Catahoula, Grant, LaSalle, Natchitoches, Rapides, Vernon and Winn parishes to create a video on the importance of healthy eating and physical activity. The winning team will work with media professionals to turn their original concept into a 30-second television commercial that will be aired on local TV and YouTube as part of the Foundation’s Diet and Physical Activity Initiative.

“The concept is key in this challenge, said Joe Rosier, president and CEO of The Rapides Foundation. “We are looking for creative ideas about living a healthy lifestyle. High-tech equipment and school video facilities are not needed to enter this competition. Any method of filming, from hand-held video equipment to cell phones will be accepted.”

Each school that enters the competition will receive $500 to assist in the production of their video. Cash awards to the winning schools include: $10,000 for the first-place video; $5,000 for the second-place video; and $2,500 for third place.

Entries will only be accepted from the school principal or the teacher assigned to the video challenge. The deadline for schools to send in their Participation Agreement is Friday, Feb. 11.

To select the winner, the Foundation will use expert judges as well as online voting. The winner will be revealed at the Get Healthy Cenla Video Challenge Film Festival on Tuesday, May 10. The Get Healthy Cenla Video Challenge contest rules, video deadline dates and details can be found on our website. Print
