As part of its Healthy Behaviors Initiative, The Rapides Foundation hosts the Youth Summit on Healthy Behaviors each year as a way for participants to learn how to become advocates for healthy choices and policy changes in their schools and communities.
In 2016, more than 500 students and teachers from throughout Central Louisiana came together at the sixth annual Youth Summit on Healthy Behaviors held October 5. Summit presenters included nationally recognized advocates in the areas of nutrition, tobacco prevention, physical activity, and substance and alcohol abuse prevention. The summit provided advocacy training for participants presented through tracts focused on those topics. Summit attendance is part of grant funding to Central Louisiana school districts from the Foundation's Healthy Behaviors School District Partnership Grant. Participating school districts in the Healthy Behaviors grant for the 2016-17 school year are: Allen, Avoyelles, Catahoula, Grant, Natchitoches, Rapides and Vernon.
