  Community Development Works (CDW)

Community Development Works (CDW) mission is to create and support a community development infrastructure as the primary vehicle for citizen involvement in improving the health and well-being of Central Louisiana residents. CDW programming is dedicated to providing Cenla residents and nonprofit organizations with tools and resources that support citizen-led community development efforts. Visit the CDW Web site at www.communitydevelopmentworks.org or view the CDW presentation.

Programs of CDW include:

The Learning Lab:  The Learning Lab is a Foundation Center Cooperating Collection site. This distinction allows the Lab to better serve grant seekers in the region by holding Foundation Center resources for grant seeking and grant writing. Located on the first floor of The Rapides Foundation Building, the CDW Learning Lab is a place for Cenla residents, community groups and nonprofit organizations to access technical assistance, information, publications, and databases that assist local groups in planning programs and projects in their communities. The Learning Lab houses a nonprofit and community development library and small computer center for prospect and program research. Click here to learn more about the Learning Lab and our unique “Search the Stacks” feature.

Board Works: Board Works is a special series of training sessions targeting seasoned Board members. Sessions will cover high-level governance topics that reflect on trends and best practices in Board development. The format is discussion-based using case studies. For more information, visit Board Works online.

Board Builders Program: The CDW Board Builders Program provides a unique opportunity for young professionals in Cenla to become active in their community as members of local nonprofit Boards of Directors. Participants are trained through a series of sessions in the roles and responsibilities of being an effective Board member. After successful completion of the training, participants are matched with a developed nonprofit organization for service on their Board of Directors. This year, 15 Central Louisiana professionals graduated from Board Builders. For more information on the Board Builders program and 2007 Board Builders participants, visit Board Builders online.

Nonprofit Training: CDW training seminars provide emerging and tenured community and organizational leaders with best practices and practical tools in community organizing and nonprofit governance and management. Workshop trainers include experts from across the state with extensive backgrounds in nonprofit management who will provide participants with insider information on the latest trends in the field. CDW also offers sessions specifically designed for faith-based groups.
