CART project to put more math, science teachers in Cenla high schools

Sixty people with math and science backgrounds will teach in Central Louisiana high schools while pursuing a tuition-paid master’s degree, thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

Twenty Central Louisiana professionals graduated on Nov. 19 from Cenla Boardbuilders, a Community Development Works program that trains emerging leaders to become active in their communities as members of nonprofit Boards of Directors.
Community Development Works is a program funded by The Rapides Foundation.

ALEXANDRIA - Wendy Roy, program director of The Rapides Foundation's Cenla Medication Access Program, has won the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's 2009 Women of Excellence Award in the health and medicine category. Awards were presented at the Women of Excellence Awards Gala on May 6 in Baton Rouge.

Cenla Celebrates 'Kick Butts Day'

Youths from across Central Louisiana will be holding activities Wednesday, March 25, to recognize Kick Butts Day, a nationally recognized day that empowers young people to speak up and take action against tobacco. Several schools and organizations are sponsoring activities with grant funding provided by The Rapides Foundation's Tobacco Prevention and Control Initiative.

Foundation to hold diet, physical activity forum

The Rapides Foundation is looking for community partners interested in working on its Diet and Physical Activity Initiative. The community is invited to learn more about this initiative on Thursday, March 5, from 10 a.m. until noon at The Rapides Foundation Building, 1101 Fourth St., downtown Alexandria. The forum will take place in Classroom C, Second Floor.
